One of Marlboro’s most important and lasting lessons is that having goals may not be the most potent way to progress! We attempt to pass on the virtues of artistic exploration and what it means to share with others on the deepest level. We must remain vigilant in affirming that music is organic, pulsing with life’s vibrations.
I began my life at Marlboro as a young, unseasoned violist. I was catapulted into a new world of sights, sounds, and images: humanity working in depth, with unabashed passion and faith in
the power of artistry.
Marlboro remains a grand experiment! The world of chamber music is akin to the world at large. We must retain our own impulses and identity yet allow another’s impulses and choices to flow through us in a convincing manner. It is the ideal of good government; the ideals of a society are strengthened through both resistance and flow.
